Studies On The Reasons For Divorce Revealed

Published On: February 18, 2014

There are so many reasons why people get divorced it is difficult to focus on very specific issues that affect all couples. Because couples and marriages are so different, the reasons for marital breakups are equally as diverse. In fact, there were a number of studies based on potential problems that were published last year.

Cultural changes are leading to more divorces – According to a Bowling Green State University study, the number of divorced women in the United States is growing. In fact, 15 percent of women are divorced are separated in 2013, compared to less than one percent in 1920. Researchers found that the increase is due in part to cultural changes, which ostensibly means that it is more socially acceptable for people to end marriages they were not happy in.

Social media can contribute to marital breakups – A study published in June suggests that people who check Facebook too often are at risk of putting themselves in compromising positions. Researchers found that jealousy about past loves may lead to Facebook induced arguments, or to infidelity (emotional or physical) that may eventually lead to divorce.

Fears of being alone may keep people in bad marriages – A researcher from the University of Toronto published a study that found that the fear of being single may keep people with less than desirable spouses. Essentially, some people may feel better with someone (in light of their issues) instead of no-one. These people may be focusing on relationship status instead of the quality of their relationship.
